Child Care

For the past two years, GSA's Office of Child Care and Office of Congressional Affairs have been working with Members of Congress to investigate ways to make child care more affordable, particularly for lower income workers. Tuition rates at Federal child care centers mirror local market rates and can range from $45 per week for a 4-5 year old in Kansas to $250 per week for infant care in Washington, DC. For many young working parents, these fees make on-site child care a prohibitive expense. Recent legislation permits the Office of Personnel Management to work with Federal agencies to determine how employees may receive child care assistance and improve child care affordability.
