Goal 2

To align the skills in the workforce with mission needs by strengthening technical and leadership excellence and by reshaping the existing workforce.

Objective: Create, sharpen, and use the tools that are needed to enable current and future employees to support the missions of the Agency.


Current Agency-Level Focused Activities

  Begin an executive development effort for SES staff; expand managerial skills by designing new mid-management leadership and supervisory training courses; identify key future leaders early to enable successful development and preparation as part of the succession management program; and manage potential leadership pools on an Agency-wide basis.
  Align the Agency’s “Aerospace Technology” qualifications with skills and capabilities needed for the Vision for Space Exploration.
  Update the recruitment strategy for the Agency, reflecting workforce planning analyses.
  Develop Agency career paths for Agency critical discipline areas.
  Ensure all employees receive the training and development they need by institutionalizing the use of automated Individual Development Plans across the Agency.
  Improve measurements of our success and return-on-investment for NASA’s training and development.
