Going Overseas
Security Clearance

Your organization should verify your security clearance and update it if required. Your security clearance may need to be updated if it is due to expire or if you need a different level of clearance. You should work this issue with your supervisor and with the JSC Security Branch.

Personnel security investigations must be initiated before you leave for your overseas assignment. A 35-day investigation will be initiated once you have turned in the appropriate forms to the JSC Security Branch. Currently, those employees that are PCS’d to Russia will have a special background investigation conducted and granted a Top Secret security clearance once the investigation is favorably completed. The JSC Security Branch will send a copy of your clearance to NASA Headquarters/Code I, who will forward it to the DoS.

If you are going TDY overseas, or PCS/TCS anywhere overseas other than Russia, you should work directly with your organization and the Security Branch to determine the security requirements for your particular destination.

All travelers should call the JSC Security Branch, at 483-4727, to schedule a travel briefing prior to departure. You can also find additional travel information on the Center Operations Directorate Travel Homepage (LINK).
