This handbook is provided as a general guide to help you understand the pay and benefits that are available to you as a Federal civil servant working for NASA.
The chapters are grouped by benefit type and ordered so as to correspond with the progress of your NASA career -- from those benefits that are most important when you first come to work--through those that are most important at the time you retire.

Purpose of This Handbook
This On-line handbook provides a consolidated introduction to the extensive and often complex, variety of Federal employee benefits that are available to you. It is intended to provide you and your family an easy-to-understand summary of these benefits.
The handbook incorporates materials from many sources including Federal law, Federal regulations, Office of Personnel Management, Personnel Operating Manuals, Retirement Manuals, Social Security and Medicare Guides, and Thrift Savings Plan booklets.
Specific policies and operational procedures are not included.
Important Note
This guide is for general information only. Your actual entitlement to, and the availability of these benefits is dependent upon the applicable Federal law or regulation. Although every effort is made to insure the currency and accuracy of the information in this guide, new or amended Federal laws/regulations sometimes supersede the information in this guide. As a result, you should not interpret this guide as being any form of employment contract or commitment that you are entitled to any employment benefits that are not provided for under Federal law or regulation. |
If You Dont Understand a Term that is Used
A glossary is located in the rear of the guide to help you better understand the terms that are commonly used in describing your benefits. Some of the terms that appear in the glossary do not appear in the handbook; however, these are terms that you will frequently encounter in related brochures and pamphlets.
Updated Handbooks
This online version is the most up-to-date copy of the handbook, it is updated "real-time" as changes occur in regulations and programs.
