  • TIPS
    • Go talk with one or two people who have been to the country you are considering moving to, or people who are there now.
    • Research the country and things to know online (for example - http://ru.allied.com/AboutUs_MoscowInformation.aspx)
    • Consider things such as:
      • There is a Citibank at the U.S. Embassy; you may not be able to use your credit cards everywhere
      • Prescriptions – consider what you’ll need until the next time you will be in the U.S. or able to refill
      • Look for opportunities to socialize
      • Bring personal items that will make the family more comfortable
      • Take your time the first few weeks you are there – don’t expect to everything in the first few days
    • Recommended Training:
      • Before you go, contact your Human Resources Development Representative (HRDR) about training appropriate for your situation.
      • You can access the SATERN training website at: https://satern.nasa.gov
      • For travelers going to Russia, we suggest the Pre-Travel to Russia Seminar.

    • Q: Should I consider leaving my U.S. insurance in place?
      A: Some carriers will penalize you for having a gap in your insurance history. Check with your provider to determine if there is any risk for having a gap in your coverage history.
    • Q: Can NASA pay for bereavement travel?
      A: NASA cannot pay for bereavement travel.
    • Q: Is moving overseas a qualifying life event to change my medical coverage?
      A: Yes, contact your Benefits and Service Representative.
