Contact travel office regarding your passport, visa, and letter of invitation. |

Schedule physicals Part I and Part II. |

Obtain customs and tax information for your destination country. |

Start obtaining information on home country taxes and foreign taxes you may have to pay while abroad. |

Work with HR on move requirements. |

Start collecting things you would like to send to the country you are going to. Begin to separate items into shipping, personal baggage, and storage groups. |

Obtain family medical and dental records. |
 |
Dry clean everything that won’t be used again before the move. |
 |
Complete repairs of household goods, such as watches, clothes, appliances, etc. |
 |
Obtain required documentation for any pets being moved. |
 |
Start telling people to contact you in your new location, and send out change-of-address notifications. |

Determine if you will need electrical converters for any electronics or appliances you plan to take with you. |

Arrange for cancellation of services (newspapers, utilities, telephone, cable television, etc.) |

Investigate and consider purchasing medivac insurance. This is strongly recommended for Permant Change of Duty Station (PCS) travelers. If you are traveling TDY, you may or may not be covered by NASA depending on your circumstances. If people are visiting and want short-term medical evacuation insurance, send them to http://www.internationalsos.com/. They can enroll on-line. |

If you want business cards with your new country information, you should start this process now with one of the Starport shops in B3 or B11. |

Review medical insurance and coverage. |

Contact your center's security office regarding appropriate security clearance. |
 |
Contact the NASA Embassy Office (256-961-6334) and ask to have NASA HQ request the State Department to send the cable to Moscow identifying you as an Attaché. This is only required for folks living in Moscow. Star City folks do not need this extra cable. |
 |
Have Travel Office make you 10 extra visa pictures to bring to Moscow for Embassy paperwork. |
 |
Make an eye doctor appointment for contacts and ask for a six month supply or purchase contacts on the web. |
 |
Verify driver’s license doesn’t expire while gone. If so, renew. You can do this on the web - http://dps.texasonline.state.tx.us/ |

Movers come to take the boxes and other stuff. They will do all the packing. |

Have your center's security office fax the State Department Medical clearance confirmation to the NASA Embassy office. The fax number is 256-961-6335. |

Set up airport transportation or plan to call a taxi. |

Start putting things a side for your trip. |
 |
If your home will be vacant, inform the alarm company that you will be out of the country and give them a contact phone number. |
 |
Call your car insurance and inform them you will be out of the country and you want the vehicle insurance changed to non active mode. Make sure your rates won’t increase for bring non-active for a period of time. |
 |
Develop a cash management strategy. |
 |
Pick up medication and prescriptions. |
 |
Close bank accounts (if necessary). |
 |
Drain fuel and oil from power tools. |

Assemble all valuables and documents to take with you. |

Bring your NASA badge. |
 |
Call AT&T (800-888-7600) and place the cell phone on vacation mode starting the day after you leave. |
