Accelerated Living Benefit from your Life Insurance
Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) - Living Benefit

A Living Benefit payment is a lump sum payment to those who are terminally ill and have a documented medical prognosis showing a life expectancy of no more than nine months. You are eligible to elect a Living Benefit if you are an employee and you are enrolled in the FEGLI Program.

A Living Benefit is equal to the Basic Life insurance amount, plus any extra benefit for persons under age 45, that would be in effect nine months after the date of the Office of Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (OFEGLI) receives a completed claim for Living Benefits form.

NASA Employee Benefits Association (NEBA) - Accelerated life insurance benefit

You or your legal representative, while you are alive and insured under the NEBA Basic plan, may request that a portion of the amount of your Basic Life Insurance be paid to you prior to your death. The amount of insurance that Alta Health pays as an Accelerated Life Insurance Benefit is up to 50% of your Group Life Insurance amount, but no more than $50,000 and no less than $5,000.

To qualify for this benefit you must be under 70 years old, be terminally ill and expected to die within 12 months, or confined to a nursing home from which you are not expected to leave and expected to die within 18 months.
