Frequently Asked Questions

How do I logoff from the benefits statement?

There are four ways to logoff from your benefits statement:

  1. NEBS will time out after 20 minutes of inactivity in case you left your desk and forgot to logoff.
  2. There is a logoff button on the first page of the statement document.
  3. There is a logoff button on the last page of the statement document
  4. Logoff button is on the logon page. You can hit your Back button to return to the logon page.

What hardware/software is required to access this site?

NEBS was designed for operation under Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later) on IBM-compatible and Macintosh PCs.  NEBS will operate under Netscape Navigator 4.72 and earlier versions, but this may result in format/layout discrepancies while printing. Due to discrepancies discovered in testing, Netscape 6.0 is not currently supported.

Your browser must support Secure Socket Layers (SSL) with 128-bit data encryption and JavaScript. "Cookies" must be enabled. Both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator have options which support these capabilities.

What are "cookies" and why/how does this site use them?

"Cookies" are small pieces of information which are stored on the user's computer by the application software. NEBS uses cookies to store two computer-generated identifiers that uniquely associate the user to NEBS data created during the current session. No private/personal data is stored in cookies. NEBS uses "session" cookies which are valid only while the browser is open and displaying NEBS data. When the browser closes, the cookies are deleted.

Who can access the NASA Employee Benefits System web site?

Access to NEBS is limited to permanent NASA employees whose duty status is not "Separated". The employee must also have access to the NASA intranet (NEBS will not be available via the internet).  During the 2001 timeframe, access was expanded to all NASA centers. Contact your local Human Resources Office for more information. Employees of supported NASA centers who do not have access to the NASA intranet may request a benefit statement from their local Human Resources Office.

How do I get a NEBS password?

Passwords will be issued via mail when NEBS is made available to your NASA Center. New employees will receive their passwords within their first month of employment. If you feel that you meet the criteria to produce your own benefits statement and have not received your NEBS password memo, contact your Benefits Counselor of your local Human Resources Office.

I have forgotten my password.  How do I reset it?

Contact the Benefits Counselor of your local Human Resources Office to reset your NEBS password.
